The Gladstone Area Water Board (GAWB) is a Commercial Statutory Authority responsible to the Minister for Natural Resources, Mines and Energy and the bulk water provider located in the exciting port city of Gladstone, Central Queensland. GAWB supplies raw and potable water to major resource-sector industries, power generating organisations, and the Regional Council.

The Electrical Instrumentation & Control Technician is responsible for the delivery of planned, preventative and reactive operational and maintenance works associated with all GAWB’s electrical and instrumentation infrastructure.

Reporting to the Electrical & Mechanical Supervisor your responsibilities will include:
• Perform the two primary roles within the business, fully qualified Electrician and fully qualified instrument fitter, enabling better coverage for planned, corrective and call out maintenance activities.
• Undertake planned, preventative and reactive operational and maintenance works associated with all GAWB’s electrical and instrumentation infrastructure with a focus on safety, water quality and supply and reliability.
• Perform repair, installation, calibration, commissioning work and statutory safety checks on existing and new equipment in accordance with plans, specifications and directions provided and to the requirements as outlined by Quality Assurance Systems and Australian Standards
• Work autonomously to fault find and repair complex control systems, such as PLC and SCADA
• Maintain GAWB’s online analytical analysers, certified flow measuring devices and process critical control points according to Australian Drinking Water Guidelines
• Be developed into standby/backup specialised business critical roles (e.g. Citect SCADA)
• Access goods, equipment and services needed for the performance of duties in the role, through appropriate suppliers in accordance with GAWB’s Purchasing Policy
• Provide input into investigation, development and implementation of productivity improvement initiatives.
• Organise, monitor, control and prioritise individual workloads in conjunction with supervisors
• Possess thorough understanding of and the ability to develop safe work documentation, including safe work method statements.
• Be willing to participate in after hour emergency call outs

Duties and responsibilities will vary according to the needs of the business.

We would be pleased to receive your application should you possess:
• Dual Trade Qualification – Electrical Fitter Mechanic and Instrumentation
• Prior experience in fault finding complex circuitry
• Ability to diagnose Allen Bradley PLC
• HV Electrical switching certification or ability to obtain
• Ability to read and interpret electrical and telemetry plans, specifications and complex circuit diagrams
• Sound knowledge of electronic/electrical systems, SAA wiring rules, Queensland Electrical Safety Act and relevant Australian Standards
• Competent in MS applications Word, Excel and Outlook
• Understanding and proven ability to perform manual handling tasks, operate and maintain plant, tools, vehicles and equipment as required performing the functions of the role
• Excellent communication skills
• Hold and maintain a valid “C” class driver’s licence
• Possession of 30215 QLD – Course in General Safety Induction (Construction Industry)
