Group HSE Manager

Our client is a fast paced, expanding mining services company with locations globally including Australia, Africa, India and the UK. With over 7,000 employees, the combined group is a leader in surface and underground contract mining, drilling, drill & blast, mineral analysis, exploration and logistics.

Due to its continued growth, we are now looking for a Group HSE Manager. The group’s business units HSE Managers functionally report through to this position which has the responsibility to set standards, align best HSE practices, implement HSE functional auditing/assurance and develop HSE capability across the group globally ensuring that goals and objectives align with the organisations overall strategy and vision.

This person will be a subject matter expert that can assess and critically analyse the company’s current HSE status, recommend, develop and implement HSE and risk strategies, implement process improvement and efficiencies and be an individual with excellent change management, buy-in and influencing skills.

Key responsibilities:
• Provide leadership, effective management and support to both the corporate and operational HSE teams globally
• Engage with senior management to assist in shaping the company’s future through the improvement and development of new policies and procedures
• Develop, approve and monitor the implementation of the group HSE management system and HSE structure to ensure a standardised approach on all group projects and facilities
• Enforce and ensure compliance with HSE laws and regulations across geographically diverse areas
• Assess current work procedures and environments to identify potential hazards and either eliminate them or ensure that adequate controls are in place to mitigate them
• Ensure safe work practices, procedures, safety standards and regulations are known to all staff across the group and they are property trained in these areas
• Take part in incident investigations and prepare associated reports
• Promote and facilitate employee safety committees and programs across the group
• Act as interface with senior management and project management for all matters in relation to HSE

• Preferably tertiary qualified in a related HSE field
• Minimum 15 years diversified international experience in the HSE field
• Strong knowledge and awareness of multiple mining discipline activities
• High level of commercial, cost and contractual awareness
• In-depth knowledge of international HSE codes and standards
• Proven negotiation and influencing skills across all levels of management
• Good coordination and presentation skills
• Good report writing skills with the ability to document policies and procedures
• Assertive personality, sensitive to multi-cultural, multi-national environments
