Our client’s broad multidisciplinary capability is demonstrated in the delivery of both small and large scale projects, across the infrastructure, oil and gas, mining and building sectors. From metro tunnels, to runway upgrades, to post earth-quake reconstruction works, to the expansion of a petroleum gas refinery, our client uses its strong experience in SMP, building foundations, precast concrete, piling, hardstands, roads, runways and bulk earthworks combined with their systems and processes to drive production and deliver projects for their clients on time and within budget.

THE POSITION

At a time of major change in the Australian construction industry, our client is well placed to take advantage of this disruption. The Senior SMP Estimator is a critical role within the business, supporting growth and ensuring successful tender management and accurate bids.

The role reports to Estimating Manager Australia and works closely with the State Manager WA on winning bid strategies. The opportunity for career progression in a pre-contracts role is outstanding, given the opportunities in the market and the growth plans that our client has.

Critical to the success of the role will be the ability to champion our client’s culture, build relationships with the internal and external stakeholders, and strong experience in civil estimating and first principles.

THE PERSON

The successful person would be a driven and engaging estimating professional who can build strong internal and external relationships and develop and enhance the company’s capability, to impact growth. Importantly, our client requires a professional who can engage with the state managers and contribute to tender and bid management.

It is anticipated that the successful candidate will be a values driven professional with a track record of successful estimating and bid experience across a gamut of SMP projects. Relevant commercial, communication and estimating skills which add value to the team are essential.

This is a unique opportunity to be a key person in the re-invigorated Perth office and to capitalise on upcoming project opportunities in the market. Our client is looking to employ a senior estimator with more than five years of experience estimating SMP projects using first principles.

LOCATION

The role will be based in the Perth office, WA.

• Optimising operational costs

RESPONSIBILITIES

A summary of the role’s responsibilities follows:
• Use of first principles to develop accurate estimates for large scale SMP projects $20m-$500m and ensure estimates are in accordance with the tender documentation and technical standards;
• Carry out site inspections, send out tender enquiries, liaise with suppliers and subcontractors; assess quotes;
• Participate in pre-contract negotiations and participate in tender reviews with senior management;
• Participate in the development of process improvement across the function.

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
• Demonstrated track record tendering on SMP projects in their entirety (more than five years);
• Experience working on large SMP projects in excess of $20m;
• Extensive knowledge of WA supply chain;
• Experience using estimating software (preferably Expert/Genesis);
• Hold tertiary qualifications in civil engineering, QS or related discipline;
• Time management skills and ability to work to deadlines.
