The Gladstone Area Water Board (GAWB) is a Commercial Statutory Authority responsible to the Minister for Natural Resources, Mines and Energy and the bulk water provider located in the exciting port city of Gladstone, Central Queensland. GAWB supplies raw and potable water to major resource-sector industries, power generating organisations, and the Regional Council.

The Civil Engineer – Dam Safety provides expertise in water catchment modelling, dam safety, asset management across the organisation.

Reporting to the Principal Engineer your responsibilities will include:

• Constant improvement of modelling to enhance forecasting capabilities to more accurately predict inflow, outflow and appropriate actions required as a result
• Continual improvement of water and catchment management modelling in relation to our environment and forecasting (AWSIM-D)
• Operation of flood level prediction modelling (WLMP) including role as Flood Engineer under Awoonga EAP
• Review of annual dam safety inspection reports and production of the annual dam safety submission to the regulator
• Responsibility for the planning and scoping of the Dam Safety upgrades to comply with legislation
• Responsibility to ensure that that all legal requirements with regard to dam structures are adhered to
• Development and maintenance of civil and structural technical standards. Review and approval of civil and structural design drawings and technical documentation
• Provide technical assistance to multi-discipline projects as required, which includes review of and input into other projects and operations and maintenance activities
• Provide technical analysis and solutions to operational and maintenance problems
• Provide technical support and advice to the Chief Executive, others within GAWB, as required
• Provide technical guidance to and supervision of tradespeople/ operators as required
• Technical input into and participation in the annual review of the Life Cycle Management
• Plans for civil, structural and piping asset within the GAWB portfolio of assets

Duties and responsibilities will vary according to the needs of the business.
We would be pleased to receive your application should you possess:
• Tertiary qualifications in Engineering (Civil) or relevant qualification from a tertiary institution recognised by Institute of Engineers Australia.
• Eligible to be registered as a Registered Professional Engineer Queensland within 5 months of being appointed into the position.
• Minimum 10 years post graduate work experience in water supply engineering
• Knowledge of civil engineering construction, especially in relation to water supply engineering.
• Knowledge and understanding of legislation and engineering codes relevant to construction and the water industry;
• Knowledge of the principles of standard contractual procedures and documentation;
• Ability to prepare technical documentation associated with construction projects, including specifications, scopes of works, and contract schedules;
• Ability to read and interpret drawings and technical documents;
• Ability to read and interpret contractual documents;
• Ability to meet deadlines;
• Computer literacy including Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel & Outlook);
• Hold a current valid C Class Driver Licence
